President Trump’s energy industry nominees are moving forward. According to UtilityDIVE, a “Senate committee today [6/6/17] voted to advance four nominees President Trump has tapped serve in positions impacting energy policy, including filling vacant seats at the quorum-less Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources voted 20-3 on both Neil Chatterjee and Robert Powelson’s nominations to serve as FERC commissioners. The five-member agency has lacked a quorum since Commissioner Norman Bay resigned at the end of January. The Senate committee also voted in favor of David Bernhardt to be Deputy Secretary of the Interior, and Dan Brouillette to be Deputy Secretary of Energy. Also, RTO Insider is reporting that the acting FERC Chair Cheryl LaFleur is relieved that the Commission will soon get more members. “LaFleur said the commission has issued only a fraction of the 100 commission-authorized orders it averages a month. Without a quorum, FERC staffers have been able to issue only delegated orders. Contested dockets and rulemakings have been at a standstill.”
