The latest budget proposal from President Trump remains unchanged from two months ago, at least for the agencies dealing with energy issues and environment. As reported by UtilityDIVE on 5/23/17, “President Trump’s budget proposal includes significant cuts to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, slashing the agency’s budget by more than 31% in an effort to ‘ease the burden of unnecessary Federal regulations that impose significant costs.’ The agency’s budget will drop by $2.6 billion, to $5.7 billion, but many programs feeling the axe are popular and have bipartisan support. The White House is also proposing deep cuts to research at the Department of Energy. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy would see a 70% budget cut; the Office of Fossil Energy budget would be reduced 44%; and the Office of Nuclear Energy budget will decline by nearly 30%.” More also at Electric Light & Power.
